James McPartland, Ph.D. is executive director of the Center for Social Organization of Schools at Johns Hopkins University, the parent organization of Talent Development High Schools (TDHS). He is the author of numerous research studies on the equality of educational opportunities and the process of whole school reform, and leads the Johns Hopkins team that developed the TDHS model. He is frequently invited to work with government agencies and foundations on projects to improve American high schools with populations of students placed at risk for academic failure and dropping out. McPartland received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University and a doctorate in sociology from Johns Hopkins University.
